Topic: Why Is Change So Hard?
Change is a complex and multifaceted process that often evokes a wide range of emotions and challenges. Despite these challenges, change is an inevitable part of life and is often necessary for growth, progress, and adaptation. By acknowledging the difficulties associated with change and providing support, encouragement, and clear communication, we can help individuals and organizations embrace change and Continuous Improvement more effectively.

Melissa has a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering and has been working in the utility sector for most of her career. She is passionate about continuous improvement, both in her professional and personal life. With her background in change management and continuous improvement, Melissa is committed to helping her co-workers understand the benefits of this approach. She often uses the analogy of a plugged sink to illustrate her point: I go home from work and I'm a mom/wife, and the sink is plugged. "Ugh, fixing this is just part of life. I don't think of it as an extra task on top of my day job."

Jayne Overbeck is a Senior Strategy Manager at Dart Container where she manages high-level program initiatives and helps to foster strong cross-functional collaboration. She is responsible for continuously improving the Strategy Department’s processes and methodologies to drive value and support better business outcomes. In addition, she leads kaizen events, teaches courses on Lean principles, and mentors team members.
