Gemba Walks
Why can Gemba walks be confusing, or their purpose misunderstood?
Gemba walks, a cornerstone of continuous improvement in various industries, can sometimes be a source of confusion for participants. Originating from the Japanese term "Gemba," meaning the actual place or the real location where work happens, these walks involve leaders and team members observing processes firsthand to identify opportunities for improvement. However, the confusion often arises when there is a lack of clarity on the purpose and expectations of the Gemba walk. Join us to learn more.

Josh Smith lives in Holland, Michigan with his wife, Samantha, who teaches Kindergarten, and their two sons; four-year-old Hudson and nine-month-old Gordon. They are his world!
Josh and his wife, Samantha, decided that life was not crazy enough with just the boys, so they added a Labrador puppy to their family this summer. Maizey is now four months old and a great playmate for the kids!
Josh is currently working at ZFS as the Director of Operational Excellence. Josh has been with ZFS since early 2020. Prior to that, he worked at US Marble, where he was introduced to Lean manufacturing and helped champion Lean implementations in multiple stone and marble manufacturing plants throughout the US.
